The record Idaho's "press" won't keep.
A June 10 Idaho Ledger report on the Coeur d'Alene police chief appointment contained two errors. The article has been corrected. The specific errors and corrections are as follows.
The original story incorrectly attributed portions of the April 19, 2026 text exchange between council members Dan Sheckler and Kiki Miller. The story stated that Miller suggested adding an executive session to the April 21 agenda and that Sheckler replied "Exec session wouldn't change anything." The source document -- a screenshot produced under public records from Miller's phone -- shows the reverse: Sheckler suggested the executive session and Miller replied that it would not change anything. The story also incorrectly included Miller's message "And they don't ask -- they repeat what they're told" as part of Sheckler's statement. The corrected exchange is reflected in the updated story.
The original story stated that Dan Sheckler's response to the Idaho Fidelity Foundation "confirmed that Adams sent the Brainard materials to Jacobson." That confirmation came from Interim City Administrator Ron Jacobson's own response, not Sheckler's. Sheckler stated in his response that he could not confirm or deny communications involving legal counsel. The story has been corrected to accurately reflect each party's response.
The Idaho Fidelity Foundation regrets these errors. The underlying factual record -- that the text exchange occurred, that the words were written by the parties now correctly identified, and that all communications are documented in city public records -- is unchanged.
