Notable: Same Session as HB 659 and S 1260
The same legislature that passed HB 659 (mandatory ICE cooperation — later killed in committee) and is advancing S 1260 (immigration enforcement) is also advancing HJM 20 — calling on Congress to fund education for undocumented students. Idaho voters should know their legislature is sending mixed signals on immigration policy.
What HJM 20 Does

House Joint Memorial 20 states the findings of the Idaho Legislature and formally calls on the President of the United States and Congress to assist states in covering the costs of educating students residing in the United States regardless of their immigration status.

This is a non-binding memorial — it does not create law or appropriate funds. But it represents an official position of the Idaho Legislature and will be transmitted to federal officials.

Sponsor: Rep. Steve Tanner (R-Rigby, District 13B). Passed the House and is heading to the Senate.
